Thomasina Wynchester can assume any disguise necessary to help her family in their quest to aid those in need. Their latest project is a modern military cipher derived from a centuries-old manuscript. The cipher was developed by a woman and her idea pilfered by her uncle, so the Wynchesters seek to right this wrong. Their efforts bring Tommy into close contact with Philippa York, the aristocratic bluestocking she’s been smitten with for ages. Philippa has never felt anything for anyone and as such she does not believe in love. She merely wants to decipher the old manuscripts to ensure her friend receives credit for her brilliance. In fact, Philippa is annoyed to need help from a man, and is thrilled to learn that the charming, roguish baron aiding her is in fact Tommy, leaving Philippa to contend with a newly awakening heart.
This story was rather more than I expected it to be, and I definitely think my listening to it on audio added to the story immensely. The narrator’s voice was very well-suited to this setting and drew me right into the story. I happened to be listening to this audiobook during a devastating time for my family and its upbeat positivity and emphasis on family helped me to see something positive when I needed it most. I wasn’t sure what I was in for when I started it but I’m happy I gave this work a shot and I will definitely be seeking this wonderful narrator out more in the future, as well as continuing this sometimes silly, but delightfully upbeat, warm fuzzy-inducing series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an audio advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
