When Flora Dalreagh discovers her father has been murdered in the night, she hastily departs the castle, fearing her new betrothed, Ragnall Dalreagh, committed the crime to further his ambitions for wealth and title.
Two years pass and Flora returns to the castle where Ragnall is now laird as a maid seeking to get close to him and finally avenge her father. She doesn’t anticipate the passion Ragnall ignites within her or the confusion it brings. The castle is full of treachery and deceit and more secrets threaten the tentative bond developing between Ragnall and Flora.
This was a quick read and I think it definitely benefited from the audio narration. The characters aren’t as well-developed as they could be, but this is to be expected in a novella and they were still interesting leads. The villain was a bit obvious for me, but this didn’t lessen my enjoyment of the story, though I did feel like I missed something given how quickly Flora professed to love Ragnall after nursing a fierce hatred for him for two years. Otherwise, I enjoyed their relationship and Ragnall’s quick defense of Flora.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
