Some of the most recognizable members of Hollywood’s elite have converged on the picture perfect Caribbean island of St. Genesius to film The Siren. The film stars famed Hollywood heartthrob and bad boy Cole Power, along with his ex-wife, Stella Rivers, and is directed by his son Jackson Power. The interconnected cast and suspenseful storyline are sure to appeal to audiences.

The set is home to three very different women, all with their own agendas. Stella needs to revamp a career that has gone up in smoke and overcome her image of unpredictability and alcohol abuse. Producer Taylor is looking to get out from under her father’s thumb and rescue her floundering career after he saw her embroiled in scandal. Felicity, Stella’s new assistant from seemingly out of nowhere, has her own mission that may throw a wrench into everyone’s plans.

Filming runs into several hitches, not the least of which include interpersonal issues and a hurricane brewing offshore, and all three women find themselves trapped on the island with a mutual enemy. But with secrets being revealed left and right, trusting the wrong person could prove more deadly than the storm.

This book was far from what I usually read as it’s not a romance, though there is a bit of a romance subplot added in. It took a while for the storyline to get set up and the first few chapters didn’t really hold my attention, but things picked up after that and by the last third or so of the book, I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed the insidious suspense here and the quiet, careful way it unfolded after precise layering. The characters all had depths I hadn’t anticipated, and I enjoyed seeing them fleshed out. My only complaint is that the ending wound up a little abrupt, though this did fit given the timing of the book’s climax. I was satisfied by the epilogue; I just wanted a bit more detail. I’m happy to have taken a refreshing jaunt outside my typical wheelhouse and I think this is the perfect beach or vacation read for summer.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
