As the daughter of a powerful earl, Lady Miranda Cheswick's family has high expectations that she'll marry a duke or even a prince. She plans to live up to their expectations even though she dreams of marrying for love. She has been groomed by her manipulative mother to think much of herself and her own beauty, but now such shallowness sickens her and she wants a man who will truly see her. She just has to ensure he has enough rank to please her mother. An accident leaves her stranded along with her brother and mother, at the estate of the charming Dr. Simon Astor. Miranda is immediately attracted to Simon but knows he will not be accepted by her mother as a suitor. For his part Simon must focus on his hopes of building a hospital for the nearby village. Nevertheless, when Miranda and her family remain stranded at his estate for two weeks, he finds himself falling for her.

Of course, her mother won't settle for a third son, even if he is the son of a duke, and she forces Miranda into a compromising position with Simon's older brother, the duke. This devious scheme may not be able to survive the scandal.

Miranda's mother was just awful and I kept wanting Miranda to stand up to her more firmly and she frustrated me with her naivete, but Simon was adorable and oh so romantic.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
