Robert de Keith was captured by the English eight years ago and has since been forgotten in a cold dungeon. Now he’s finally been released and can’t wait to return home to Dunnottar Castle and his beloved wife, Elizabeth. She has done an excellent job acting as laird in his stead, but now Robert feels like an imposter in his old home and his wife is distant and treats him as a stranger. Robert doesn’t even know how to interact with his young son who was just a toddler when he left.
With the coming of Yuletide, Robert and Elizabeth struggle to get to know each other again after the upheaval they’ve both faced and overcome the resentment and distance between them to see if their love can be reclaimed.
For such a short novella, this second chance story certainly packed an emotional punch. Elizabeth and Robert had lots of hurts to work through but seeing them find their way back to each other was just the heartwarming story I needed to get me into the Christmas spirit and the festive backdrop of Yuletide was perfect here.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
