As a widow out of mourning, Holly Farthing finds Christmastime to be lonely, even when spending it with her family. She nearly declines her dearest friend’s house party invitation, but accepts when she learns her brother’s friend, Viscount Ivy, will also be in attendance. She’s admired him from afar for years now, but he’s always only seen her as a little sister. He doesn’t seem to notice her at this party either, but when heavy snowfall traps them for several extra days, she has more time to try.
Adam, Viscount Ivy, is surprised to find Holly at the house party unaccompanied. He’s attracted to her, but afraid she only sees him as a friend after such a long acquaintance. When a fellow guest threatens Holly’s reputation and future social standing, Adam steps in to protect her, offering a fake engagement to shield her until he can sort things out. The heat between Holly and Adam is all too real, but he’ll need the extra time snowed in with her to show her that his feelings for her are real as well.
This was a cute story of childhood friends finding each other once again and exploring feelings that were maybe always there. These two were adorable together and they communicated well, not drawing out their fake engagement too long. This was an excellent feel-good escape to help me start getting into the festive spirit.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
