Lenore Garrett is just like all the other American Dollar Princesses of London, seeking to marry a title and claim her place in society. Or at least that’s how she wants things to seem. Her plan is coming along nicely thanks to her fake engagement to her dear friend, Lord Frederick Herrington, but she longs for more than he can give her, especially after she meets the mysterious Phineas Mercer.
As the heir to a mere baronet and severely impoverished at that, Phineas Mercer clings to the edges of high society, hoping to find a wealthy bride to shore up his family’s resources. His wife search has been unsuccessful, but his time spent within society has given him plenty of fodder for the salacious stories he anonymously publishes. His writings are a hit and soon have all of the London aristocracy keen to learn the author’s identity. When Phineas meet Lenore, he knows she’s his match. He just has to get her to face the scandal of switching fiancés.
This was a fun story and Phineas and Lenore were an explosive pair. I really enjoyed that the quiet, somewhat nerdy man also got to be sexy and was never emasculated by his lack of money or social consequence. I only wish Lenore had acted with more good sense and learned from her previous mistakes rather than continuing to make poor decisions. I don’t want to say more and risk spoilers, but this was a good read and a solid addition to the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
