David Wirth has spent his law career defending others from injustice and seeking to prove his own worth despite his humble beginnings. His latest case is the most important of his career, hunting down the three powerful noblemen responsible for running a child kidnapping ring and bringing them to justice. David is usually all business, but lately the intense tension between himself and his business partner, Lionel Mercer, is reaching a boiling point. Lionel may not have a law degree, but the secrets and connections he has gathered over the years make him invaluable. But Lionel keeps his own secrets closely guarded, even from David, his dearest friend.
As secrets inevitably come to light, David and Lionel are faced with nearly insurmountable challenges and, especially with David’s old partner helping with the investigation, resentments that may not be overcome.
I’ve been wondering what was going on between these two for the whole series. It was nice to see them both finally being honest and vulnerable with each other and I liked how supportive they were of each other. I’d like to think they have a long and happy future together and I will look forward to Niall’s story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
