Lucien Durand, Viscount Bolt, illegitimate son of the Duke of Brexford has always been rather notorious and said to have the devil's own blood. He's also been believed to be dead, drowned in the Thames, for ten years, so his reappearance in London society sets tongues wagging once more. Lucien is much stronger now and determined to have his revenge and maybe also get closer to Angelique Breedlove, one of the proprietresses of the boarding house where he's staying.

When Lord Bolt arrives at the Grand Palace on the Thames, Angelique is immediately drawn in by his charisma and presence, but she also recognizes his pain. Despite the connection she feels, Angelique wants nothing to do with emotions and refuses to risk her heart. But the passion that eventually explodes between them sees Lucien's priorities swiftly realigning and he throws everything he has into showing Angelique that his love is true and worth the risk because he will never hurt her.

I loved Lucien. He was such a vulnerable hero with so much pain to deal with and it was so charming to watch him develop as a character. Without that vulnerability I don't think Angelique would've grown close to him or shown her own vulnerabilities. That whole aspect really made this work and made for a very emotional read. These two were perfect for each other and this story was lovely and made you really think about the true priorities in life.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
