As mischievous as they come and with a mostly ruined reputation, Lady Eliza Towers is attending her friend Lady Caroline's house party to find a respectable husband. The only man to catch her eye, however, is the gruff and very attractive Bow Street Runner Adolphus Gibbon, whom she sets out to seduce. Her friends organize the perfect circumstances in the form of an indoor scavenger hunt.

Adolphus is at the party to bring one of the guests to justice for his crimes, not to enjoy the party himself. But Adolphus finds Eliza irresistible and when he realizes she has a painful past with the man he's targeting, his assignment becomes personal, especially when his witness disappears and Eliza begins helping him find her.

I just love these quick, light, and steamy reads. The plot is fast paced, which I appreciate as it means I don't really have time to become frustrated by the characters. Even with the fast pacing, there was so much build up of sexual tension between Eliza and Adolphus that it felt right for them to be together when they did. Their relationship also developed past lust and into a true bond, which is always lovely. Adolphus was one of those strong, silent types I'm such a sucker for and his protectiveness helped Eliza realize her own self-worth. I loved it and I can't wait for the next one.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
