As the son of a duke and a clear musical genius, Lord Kendal Grant can be insufferably arrogant, but since his return from fighting Napoleon he has lost his compositional muse. Piano tuner's daughter Mercy Wood simply needs enough money to make ends meet for herself and her father, so if some foppish lord wants his piano needlessly tuned each day, she's happy to take his money. But the daily contact soon sparks an attraction between Mercy and Kendal, leaving them both a bit shocked and Kendal inspired to create music again. As love grows between them, Kendal finds himself longing for a future with Mercy, despite the differences in their social standings. But when Kendal unexpectedly becomes his father's heir, he realizes there are more challenges to his future with Mercy than even he realized.
This was not my favorite of the series, but I did really enjoy it. I liked that Kendal was so in touch with his emotions and unafraid to show them; even if this did make him a bit manic, I think it made for an interesting character. What annoyed me was Mercy and the fact that she wasn't going to tell Kendal about his child and presumed to know what was best for him without bothering to communicate with him. I just think that is a bit unforgivable. Fortunately, she did come to her senses, of course, but that still colored my opinion a bit. Nonetheless, this was a great wrap-up to a fun series featuring lovely friendships and burgeoning relationships in a modern twist on regency.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
