Sir
Callum Sharp is known as the light-hearted and fun-loving member of his
group of friends. He's known to be charming and Lady Eliza Follett,
sister of his friend and fellow musician, Reid, has loved him since they
were young. But Callum is a different man since his return from
Waterloo and his main focuses are his music and his drinking and
partying. He avoids Eliza and the promises they made before he left,
much to her brother's relief. The only thing Callum sobers up for is his
daily meeting with his father, Baron Sharp.
But when he finds out that his beloved father only has weeks to live, Callum's life begins a downward spiral yet again. To honor his wishes, Callum must keep his father's condition a secret and his oblivious friends tell him he must sober up or he's out of their musical group. Eliza is determined to help Callum heal and deal with his grief, but it soon becomes obvious that for any real change to occur, the impetus must come from Callum himself. Reid is determined to warn Callum away from his sister and Eliza is just as determined that they'll be together, even if it means causing divisions within the group and her own family.
I have been intrigued by Callum and wanting his story since his bad behavior intensified in the first book. His is probably the most serious, emotional, and painful story of the whole series, at least so far. He and Eliza were great together and I loved how they both tried so hard for each other and showed so much growth and development. I was engrossed by this story and couldn't put it down. Yes, there are issues with forms of address and such, but the storyline, characters, and unique premise more than made up for such things that I normally tend to be a stickler for. I also applaud the author's examination of PTSD and thought it was very well done. This was the most intense story of the series by far and also a great examination of true friendship outside the romance. I am very much looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
